Staff Protocols For Re-Opening of Dining Room

Message to all Staff

As we continue through this pandemic, the number one concern of the Diplomat is the safety of our employees and the general public. We have developed and will regularly update our COVID-19 Operation Plan as information becomes available.      This has been a difficult time for all New Brunswickers.

In this document, we attempt to summarize the guidance information that has been provided by the Government of New Brunswick regarding reopening over the coming days and weeks. The government has advised that they do not expect that a vaccine will be available for 12 to 18 months or more, meaning life will not return to normal for some time. Physical distancing, health screenings, physical barriers (plexiglass), hand washing, surface cleaning, masks and face coverings will be the new normal.

Risk Assessment

Self-Assessment - Employee Pre-screening

All employees are asked to read this document to ensure they are aware of the signs and symptoms of COVID-19. In accordance with Public Health directions, you are not permitted to return to work and must contact David or a Supervisor if you answer YES to the following:

  1. Are you required to self-isolate because you have travelled outside of New Brunswick within the last 14 days?
  2. Have you been directed by a public health authority to self-isolate or quarantine within the last 14 days?
  3. Do you have at least two of the COVID-19 symptoms list below? If so, self-isolate and call 811 for direction.

By entering the restaurant, you agree that your answer to each question is NO as of the date and time you entered the office. If you answer yes to 2 of the above symptoms you must advise a supervisor and call 811.


Upon arriving at the restaurant before doing anything else, you will put on gloves and then take your body temperature with the supplied thermometer. If your body temperature is higher than 37.5 Celsius you must then use the ear thermometer and take your temperature 3 more times and use the average of the 3. If your temperature is still over 37.5 Celsius you must let the supervisor know and then leave work and call 811.


If Staff notice a customer or employee that is visibly sick, they must let a Supervisor know ASAP.

Physical Distancing

All employees and the public must maintain six feet/two metres apart at all times. If you are unable to ensure the six foot-/two-metre separation requirement at any time, all staff are required to wear a mask (either medical or community is acceptable).

Lobby / Waiting Protocols

We do not want people lingering in the lobby or the vestibule area so if we cannot seat the customer right away, we will ask that they wait in their vehicle and will call them when the table is ready. If they do not have a cell phone, we will ask their vehicle make/model and then go out to let them know their table is ready.

Reservations are Being Highly Encouraged

We will be encouraging that reservations are made and will be spacing them at intervals so that they do not all arrive at once. We will also be asking that only 1 person from the reservation come in to see if their table is ready and we will advise them from there. If a reservation was not made, we ask that customers wait in their car and we will advise them when a table is ready.

Curbside Pickup

We are offering curbside pickup from 4-9 each day. If curbside is not available a customer may pay for their order at the cash and we will bring it out to them when it is ready. If the curbside attendant notices customers approaching the restaurant they will ask if they have a reservation. If they do, they will ask them to wait in the car and advise them when their table is ready. If they do not have a reservation, they will ask them to wait in the car and advise they will let them know when a table is ready. They will either ask their cell phone number or make/model of their car and last name.


Delivery Drivers will be wearing masks and gloves at all times.

If Unable to Ensure Physical Distancing

When staff are unable to ensure social distancing, masks and gloves must be worn at all times. Staff are to keep masks on and when you do not have anyone within 2 meters you may pull down your mask and put under your chin. Please do not put the mask in your pocket, as it may get forgotten. You are advised to wash your hands thoroughly and frequently when you are able. Hand sanitizer is also readily available, and you are encouraged to use it often.

Protect Yourself and Others – Facilitating Personal Hygiene Etiquette

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. Disinfect and clean frequently touched objects and surfaces.

When coughing and sneezing, turn your head away from others and use a tissue to cover your nose and mouth, drop your tissue into a waste bin, clean your hands after discarding tissue using soap and water or alcohol for at least 20 seconds. The Diplomat strongly encourages all staff to wear non-medical masks, also referred to as community face masks, when out in the community if they are unable to maintain physical distancing. Some businesses may require them to wear a community mask before entering their building/premise so keep this in mind when going out. Stay home if you are sick. Practice Social Distancing.

We have put up a plexiglass barrier at the cash to provide additional safety to our staff and customers. We have placed hand sanitizer in the restaurant for our customers and will have hand sanitizer at the cash area beside each pin pad terminal and also on the wall towards the washrooms. We have installed hand sanitizer in the server area. There are hand wash stations for all cooks, please use these consistently.

PPE – Personal Protective Equipment

Masks and gloves are available for staff.

Thermometers are available for staff.


Door Signage – The front door will have signage advising that people may not enter if they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

Cleanliness Checklists – We will be providing checklists for cleaning.

COVID-19 Awareness sign – At cash, in back office and in staff room kitchen.

Cleaning & Disinfecting

Cleaning must be done twice per day, but more often in high contact/traffic areas.

The POS machines must be wiped down after every use. Door handles, counters must be constantly wiped down. Table and chairs must be wiped down after each use. The lobby chairs must be wiped down after each group. Washrooms are to be cleaned a minimum of 3 times per day.

All high contact areas are to be sanitized in the morning at 10:00am, again at 3:00pm and again at closing 11:00pm.

When the customer leaves, the dining staff must clean the tables and chairs (under the table edges, chair lips, arm rests and back of chairs). Rags soaking with D10 sanitizer must be used. The sanitizer must be changed at least twice per day. After cleaning a table, you must throw away your gloves or use hand sanitizer to clean your gloves.

Floors are to be thoroughly washed each night and carpets are to be vacuumed with the vacuum cleaner.

Staff members are responsible for cleaning up the staff room after each use and must sanitize the tables and chairs.

Kitchen staff are to sanitize all stainless-steel counters and D10 including the upper shelves where takeout containers are kept at 11:00pm before leaving.

As a valued member of the Diplomat staff, we will all work together to ensure these protocols are met and even exceeded.
